The Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Contest was held by the Alice Rotary Club on Feb. 26, 2020. 
The contest was open to students from Alice High School.  Students were asked to present a 5-7 minute speech on the Four-Way Test, which is the set of questions created by Rotary International, an international community service  club, uses to guide all of its decisions and service projects, locally and worldwide.
 
Winners in Alice were Justin Pastrano, first place; Juan Montez, second place; and Anissa Benavides, third place.  Justin advanced to the Rotary Area 6 competition and the Rotary District 5930 competition on May 2, 2020.
 
Justin represented Alice well, against 10 other high school students from South Texas sponsored by their local Rotary clubs.  These clubs can be found in Corpus Christi, Aransas Pass, Brownsville, Laredo, and other South Texas communities.
 
All students in the competition earned a scholarship of $250 from Rotary District 5930 for simply competing.  Justin added this $250 from District 5930 to the $500 scholarship he had already earned for first place from the Alice Club plus $100 just from representing Area 6 of Rotary bringing his total for 2020-21 for Rotary scholarships to $850.  The second and third prizes in Alice for the speech contest were $300 for Juan Montez and $200 for Anissa Benavides; only the first-place winner, Justin, was invited to the Area 6 level and to the District 5930 competition.
